Provisional Psychologist

BSc(Psych), BSc(Psych) (Hons), MProfPsychAshgrove

Emma Gorman is a Provisional Psychologist experienced in providing support to children and young adults living with trauma and psychosocial disadvantages. She uses a combination of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to create a positive difference in the lives of her clients and their families.

Emma is passionate about offering early assessment, intervention and support to neurodiverse children and young people, helping children with developmental differences, providing one-on-one and small group intervention programs in a clinic environment, and supplying home, childcare and school visiting services when required.

Emma’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Psychological Science in 2015 and a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) (Second Class, Division A) in 2016 from the Australian Catholic University and a Master of Professional Psychology from the University of South Queensland. Currently, she is undertaking an AHPRA-approved internship as a provisional psychologist.

Emma has worked in various health sectors throughout Queensland with clients from numerous backgrounds and age ranges. She has been a caseworker at Youth Justice and a youth worker, providing support to homeless young people living with complex mental health challenges. During her honours degree, she was a research assistant in the Learning Disorders and Cognition Research Team and has volunteered at a school run by Autism Queensland. She has also completed internships, including in the University of Southern Queensland Psychology and Counselling Clinic.

From her experiences working with both adults and children from vulnerable populations, Emma realised how essential early support was in changing the trajectory of people’s lives. For these reasons, Emma loves working with children and young people and feels privileged to support them in improving their mental health.

Emma always tries to exceed the expectations of the young people and families she works with and champions the power of laughter and optimism by striving to bring both into her sessions.

When she is not working, Emma enjoys spending time with her lovely dog, Lily, hiking, unwinding with yoga, or challenging herself with indoor bouldering.
