Dr Vicki McCarthy is a general paediatrician who specialises in the health, growth and development of babies, children, and teenagers.
She diagnoses and treats complex health conditions, including medical, developmental, and behavioural conditions and supports children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. She especially enjoys neonates and infants, however, also thoroughly enjoys caring and advocating for all children as they grow into adulthood.
Dr McCarthy achieved a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science and Physiology) (BSc) in 2006 and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 2010, both from The University of Queensland (UQ).
She later completed a Diploma of Child Health (DCH) at the University of Sydney in 2013, a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPHTM) at James Cook University in 2020 and gained Fellowship as a General Paediatrician with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2020.
Dr McCarthy has trained and worked in metropolitan, regional and rural Queensland hospitals, including the Royal Children’s Hospital, Queensland Children’s Hospital and Redcliffe Hospital along with the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Rockhampton Hospital and Mackay Hospital.
She enjoys teaching and in 2019-2022, she held the role of Associate Lecturer at the UQ School of Clinical Medicine.
Dr McCarthy is outcomes focused and strives to make a positive difference to the children and families she sees. She is driven by a desire to help people along with a love of working with children and families and decided long ago that a career in Paediatric Medicine would be ideal for her. She enjoys seeing improvement and progress through treatment and therapy and helping patients reach their full potential.
Away from work, Dr McCarthy is a mother to one child, aged 2 years and enjoys spending time with her young family, in nature and reading.
